A big challenge that renewable energy sources encounter is intermittency. Without suitable energy storage, adding renewables to the energy grid can be difficult. Matthew Ciardiello and Paul Button founded TerraStor to combat this problem through compressed air energy storage. TerraStor utilises natural geology to create large mechanical batteries. Their company was founded on the principles that solutions should work with nature to have a big impact on climate change, and that these solutions should be scalable.

Decarbonization is one of the most pressing global challenges. Ekhi Muniategui, CEO, has developed a continuous radioisotopic power source that uses a small piece of tritium to generate a reliable current that can run for decades. Using this technology, they avoid the need for batteries. Additionally, they are able to power small satellites and geo tracking devices. These devices are reliable and safe for critical operations because they can last for a super long time. Direct Kinetics Solutions, in this way also helps to minimise waste in empty batteries and reduces the impact of discarding too many devices.

PuriFire Labs is a carbon capture company that is tackling the problem of global emissions from manufacturing industries. Using their proprietary cryogenic carbon capture solutions, PuriFire is converting waste emissions to valuable commodities for downstream use or sequestration. They are working to prevent millions of tons of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere.
