How Nitrogen and CO2 creates Biomass and impacts our world - Azolla Biodesign

The wait is almost over! With just 1 more day to go until Decarbonization Demo Day, the 12 week program is coming to an end for our startups!

After honing in and perfecting their pitches, they will soon be ready to take the stage. We are very excited to see what they’ve been up to over the past 3 months.

Victor Leshyk, founder of Azolla Biodesign, is one of our outstanding entrepreneurs. Supporting the battle against carbon emissions through an innovative new plant, Victor has used his research on Azolla for the betterment of the energy industry.

Azolla Biodesign has built a new form of carbon capture - a plant that reduces industrial carbon dioxide through capturing carbon emissions in an indoor farming environment.

The inspiration behind Azolla came from Victor’s scientific background of working with top scientists and thinkers worldwide. He noticed that Azolla had the ability to eliminate algae and neurotoxic compounds, to take up 6 tonnes of carbon dioxide in a year, and to produce more biofuel feedstock than any other soy crops. Victor saw that this superplant was valuable, beneficial, and effective in multiple industries, so as he researched it more, he discovered it would be a perfect fit for reducing industrial carbon emissions!

Currently, Victor and his team are building a design space to grow Azolla with plans to capture large quantities of industrial carbon dioxide streams. This design space was developed in conjunction with existing infrastructures to provide multiple environmental benefits. From water purification to green fertiliser, bio fuels, livestock feed, and carbon sequestration - the superplant Azolla has the power to transform all of these industries in a sustainable way!

During the DC 22 program, Azolla Biodesign has had the opportunity to work alongside SBC’s corporate partners - Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK Line. This connection has helped Azolla Biodesign to focus and crystalize the development plan for the company's unique indoor system and it has led the company to form an essential partnership to expand in Arizona.

We are thrilled to see what the future holds for Azolla Biodesign and all they will be able to accomplish in the energy sector!
