Startup Profile
Circa Biotech is a waste management company that upcycles food waste into animal feed. It diverts organic waste from landfills which is then upcycled by insects to produce protein suitable for poultry and farmed fish.
The problem we're solving
Globally, one-third of the food produced is wasted, and when disposed of in landfills, it generates substantial methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas. Traditional waste management methods, such as landfilling and incineration, are inefficient and environmentally harmful. Additionally, the agricultural sector faces challenges with protein sources for animal feed, often relying on resource-intensive and ecologically damaging inputs like soybean and fishmeal.
Our solution
Circa Biotech transforms organic waste into valuable products using black soldier fly larvae. By diverting food waste from landfills, we produce high-quality protein for animal feed, larvae oil for biofuel, and organic fertilizer. Our process reduces methane emissions and promotes a circular economy. Additionally, we leverage patented technology to create sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from larvae oil, decreasing fossil fuel dependence.
Our differentiator
Circa Biotech challenges the current status quo by using insect farming to convert organic waste into valuable products, promoting a circular economy. Unlike traditional methods, our patented technology produces sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from larvae oil and offers a renewable alternative to fossil fuels. This innovative, eco-friendly approach distinguishes us from conventional waste management and fuel producers.
