Terralima

Terralima is building a digital commodity chain platform where we connect a trusted network of farmers in Africa to food producers and co-operatives who get high-quality, traceable agricultural commodities at a fair, transparent, and stable market price. We are also bridging the funding gap for farmers and aggregators through embedded finance.

The problem we're solving

The problem we're solving is that there are over 400k Farmer Cooperatives that source agri-commodities from 33m Smallholder Farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa; but they lack the tools to enable transparency and traceability that will give them linkages to global markets and financial services such as insurance, loans and carbon credits in order to improve incomes for Smallholder Farmers.

Our solution

The Terralima Digital Commodity Chain Platform delivers direct access to global markets and essential digital financial services for Smallholder Farmers; thus ensuring we can get food from where it is produced to where it's required while eliminating food waste and maximizing profits for African Farmers. We do this by making it easier and more efficient for the Co-operatives they work with to aggregate and sell agri commodities; as well as integrating embedded finance solutions.

Our differentiator

We are different in that we have a very strong embedded finance model that ensures they can get access to adequate and fairly priced capital, as well as global export markets for smallholder farmers in Africa.

Biggest achievement

We have signed LOIs with 3 Co-operatives and one major tea processor with a total reach of 20,000 smallholder farmers. We have also signed an agreement with an embedded finance partner for access to APIs to power our USSD-based mobile wallet for farmers through which we will extend essential digital financial services such as carbon credits, loans and insurance
