About Agritrack
The problem we're solving:
Companies in the food value chain suffer from food losses, reduced consumer trust and the complexity to secure traceability compliance. Spoilage during transit, difficulty maintaining freshness, occasional confusion to determine provenance, limited supply chain visibility, food fraud, and coordination complexity issues, are some of the challenges a food company faces. Making it more specific, food quality & traceability are major global issues, which can lead to the loss of ~15% of food produced before it even reaches the store. A problem easily showcased in perishable food cold value chains, such as fish farms, where as soon as the fish is harvested and removed from the water, the operations need to transport fish from the sea, to land, to the packaging center, to a warehouse, to an airport and eventually to the store within a limited timeframe. On top of that the fish, throughout this process, has to be stored & transported at 2 degrees Celsius, to avoid bacterial population growth. However, monitoring quality is difficult and the logistics are complicated. In addition, the industry doesn’t always have the tools to assess freshness & expiration date, leading to aged or inappropriate fish shipments and product returns and downgrades.
Our solution:
Agritrack’s solution comes to address these losses, by combining traceability with quality information (eg fish expiration date or % of protein for dairy) in real time, so that decision makers can decide early on how to process, where to ship or even how to sell / promote their product, as well as provide the product’s provenance and quality story to consumers via QRcodes helping them trust food quality labels. In addition, Agritrack's platform secures traceability compliance using international traceability standards. For example, Agritrack is one of the first adopters of GDST, the 2022 Global Seafood Traceability Standard, allowing for reliable and efficient traceability across all value chain stakeholders. Our differentiator:
Most systems that attempt to tackle food traceability are primarily blockchain based traceability software (Food Trust, Wholechain, Crystal Chain, Traceregister etc). Agritrack is developing a unique solution that fuses Traceability, Predictive Microbiology, Spectroscopy (NIR) and ML to provide a comprehensive food tracking & quality system from farm to fork. Our solution can predict food expiration date, perform advanced spectroscopic classification and establish early on food quality characteristics on the field (estimate % of protein and % fat for milk), so that decision makers can decide early on in the food value chain, how to process, where to ship or even how to sell / promote their product. In effect, this is Agritrack’s competitive advantage, delivering rich product information and insights, while also helping consumers to validate origin & quality via a QRCode.
Our biggest achievement:
Aquaculture industry: Successfully completing a 12 month pilot with one the largest EU aquacultures and recording an impressive 770% IRR. Our solution is currently on budget for roll out across 80 sites Diary Industry: In June 2023 we completed 8 months of testing at the National Laboratory of Milk, where we validated the accuracy of our Deep Learning algorithms on estimating %protein and % fat for dairy, compared to the industry standards. Our vision is for our platform to also offer a low cost and portable NIR Milk Diagnostic tool.
